Why it matters.

The tale of the tape.
A global economy means increasingly large, complex networks distributing vital enterprise information across remote offices and factories on servers, desktops and laptops around the world. Surprisingly, while incredibly advanced technological resources are allocated to distribute data around the globe, archaic local tape backup and restore systems are often the backup and recovery solution of choice.
Safeguarding remote data is often a hit-or-miss proposition. Depending upon local staff expertise and equipment to safeguard crucial day-to-day operational data is nerve wracking enough, backing up data locally to tape adds to the frustration and expense. It requires an ongoing investment in staff, training, technology and supplies for each location.
Managing offsite tape storage locally is a time consuming chore. Restoring data lost between storage periods is difficult and time-consuming, and seriously impacts ongoing business. Worse, millions of tapes are lost, stolen, compromised, destroyed and accidentally erased each year.
